Abstract: Knowing our history and where we derive our spiritual heritage, I have noticed that these same traditions are alive today with every Syro-Malabar Catholic. The traditions of a close-knit family, the family being the first church; for the children where they learn about their faith and traditions, the celebration of the Holy Qurbana of the Syro-Malabar Church, the pursuit to organize the community for both spiritual and physical growth of the individual and community, the pursuit to prayer life, and our particular expression of Jesus Christ through our Syro-Malabar traditions are all inherent in us. We are Catholics, but most importantly, we are Syro-Malabar Catholics.

Abstract: The main reason I found inspiration in writing about this issue is how politics effects the youth. So many youth find politics in church intolerable and disgusting. The fear of the church being “red tagged” has been realized, since so many youth know parishes through their Christian communities (Mar Thoma, Jacobite, Orthodox) by how bad the politics is. They recognize how politics can break friendships between parents, create feuds between leaders, and finally, they are the ones who observe how the Achans take it to themselves.

Abstract: The life of Saint Alphonsa is a challenge to the modern world which is running after success and pleasures by any means. Her life was confined to the four walls of her convent and according to the worldly standards there was nothing worthwhile in that life. But like St. Therese of Lisieux, she taught the world the little way to heaven by submitting herself totally to the will of God, even in the midst of sickness and cross. Her spirituality of accepting suffering in union with the crucified Jesus for the salvation of the world is a great challenge and a powerful reminder to our modern world of the salvific value of suffering in our lives.
